This course analyzes the major aspects of instructional design and development. Content emphasizes learning outcomes, instructional objectives, and strategies in the context of theory and practice. Instruction places emphasis on knowledge and skills required to create instructional design rationale.
Primary Project:
Instructional Design Project Report
Students work in teams of 3 to develop a proposal for an instructional design project addressing a human performance problem. The problem should involve multiple stakeholders, be instructionally solvable within a semester, and align with the team’s content expertise. The proposal must clearly justify the design approach and include detailed documentation to guide implementation.
This project aims to improve student employee understanding of Title IX guidelines.

Reflection and Self-Assessment:
There are many factors making this project one of the most impactful experiences in both my educational and professional development in the field. It is the first major Instructional Design project I ever completed in the IDD&E M.S program and it filled me with both excitement and uncertainty. Excitement at the challenge it presented and the rush of learning new concepts and processes and uncertainty at the sheer magnitude and complexity the project presented. I was lucky to be working with an incredible team who provided support and shared their knowledge while we all learned together over the course of the semester. I found myself building my skills and understanding of IDD&E principles all while developing strong relationships with my entire cohort and especially my teammates during the completion of this project and course.
It was also very gratifying that my team and I based our project on a real situation I experienced in my previous work as a Supplemental Instruction Leader with the University of North Texas. This made this project very meaningful to my personal experience, expertise as an instructor, and my interests in employee instruction.
I began the project knowing Instructional Design was what I wanted to do with my career but with very minimal knowledge of the ADDIE process and how to apply it to Instructional Design work. By the end of the project I had both improved my understanding and produced an outcome with my team that I am incredibly proud of. That said, I also appreciate how this project acts as a launching point for my skills. I feel that the differences in quality, creativity, and overall IDD&E knowledge of this project and my future IDD&E projects in the Spring semester showcase how my expertise has developed and improved over the course of my time in the IDD&E M.S Program at Syracuse University.

This course explores theories of learning and instruction, factors affecting human learning, youth through adult, with implications for the design and management of instruction.
Primary Project:
Knowledge Base Website
The KB is a fully functional website that includes individually designed infographics describing Behaviorism, Cognitive Development, and Social Learning theories and instructional design principles. As well as a front page that demonstrates an understanding of the relationships among the learning theories and their respective instructional design theories.

IDD&E Phases Involved: Design, Development
Reflection and Self-Assessment:
This project was also full of firsts that defined my Fall semester in the IDD&E M.S Program at Syracuse University. Before this project I had never created a website or designed and developed infographics resulting in a great deal of initial challenges and learning curves.
The biggest challenge with this project revolved around learning how to create and design a website in a way that was user friendly, aesthetically appealing, and informative. In addition to creating the website itself I also dealt with the novel challenge of creating six unique, informative, and well designed infographics that effectively relayed information about three major learning theories. The design components of this project were by far the most time consuming as I struggled with balancing aesthetic appeal and effective informative design.
Having never done web design work before this project, I look back on the product I created and can’t help but see amateur mistakes and areas for improvement. However, I am incredibly proud of what I was able to create given my prior lack of experience and practical skill. Beyond that, I am proud of the practical design skills that I was able to foster while creating this project. Since this KB my abilities have drastically improved and it was this project that allowed me to begin that journey.

This course introduces the use of new media tools to develop digital instructional media. Content includes an introduction and instruction on contemporary and emerging media development tools, including graphics, video editing, web design, and mobile technology.
Primary Project:
Camtasia eLearning Module
The Micro eLearning Project requires that the student creates a functional miniature eLearning module using the software Camtasia. The content covered is based on student preference. In this case, the administration of Discrete Trial Trainings by new Behavior Technicians. As a first attempt at utilizing Camtasia, requirements include at least one edited image, assessment, and web resource. In addition, the video must be interactive, have visual flow, and cover content succinctly.
Instructor: Celestia Ohrazda

IDD&E Phases Involved: Design, Development
Reflection and Self-Assessment:
This was another project that challenged my design abilities and forced me to learn new skills and software. This project introduced me to the interactive video making software Camtasia. Professor Ohrazda was an invaluable resource to help me navigate this novel software during the creation of my interactive instructional video.
This project was invaluable in helping me advance my video editing and Camtasia software skills by forcing me to confront my lack of expertise in the design and development of real interactive video elements. I based the project on one of my focuses of study – Behavioral Therapy for children with ADHD and Autism. The requirements of the rubric and the timeline we were following required me to create a more simplified instructional video than I would have preferred. However, I now have the practical skills learned from the process of creating this simple interactive video to create much more dynamic products in the future.
